We are passionate about what we do, and feel strongly about offering the best care possible for your pet. Our support staff includes certified veterinary technicians and veterinary assistants who are friendly, caring, honest, and enthusiastic about your pet’s health and well-being. Our specialized equipment includes a full in-house laboratory, digital radiography, ultrasound, rigid endoscopy, a full array of orthopedic surgical equipment, and a therapeutic laser. Our doctors believe that continuing education is extremely important and take every opportunity to strengthen their knowledge in the latest medical and surgical techniques.
MEET OUR STAFF
Daniel Cardosa, Jr. DVM, DABVP, MACVSC (Surgery), NAAVOS Founder
Dr. Cardosa is a lifelong resident of Rhode Island. He graduated from Rhode Island College in 1981 and Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1990. Dr. Cardosa is a Board Certified Veterinary Specialist in the practice of canine and feline medicine and surgery. Dr. Cardosa has a special interest in orthopedic surgery, and is accomplished at performing numerous highly demanding orthopedic surgical procedures. Dr. Cardosa is a war veteran; he completed tours of duty in 3 different war eras and in combat. He has been married to his wife, Debbie for 42 years. They have 3 grown children and 10 grandchildren. Dr. Dan enjoys working on his boat and practicing Jiu Jitsu.
Dennis is our resident Cat Whisperer. He has been a part of the Big River Team for 10 years. His ability to work wonders with the toughest of our feline patients is remarkable, with his calm demeanor and low-stress handling approach. Dennis enjoys classic rock music and spending time with his own cats at home.
Lisa joined the Big River Team in 2009. Her love and passion for animals, along with her strong work ethic, makes her an invaluable member of our staff. Lisa is an avid Dallas Cowboys fan, and never misses a game. Besides watching football, she loves spending time with her family and her two dogs, Opal and Clarabelle.
Lisa is a Certified Veterinary Technician, practicing in the field for almost 30 years. She has been the Practice Manager at Big River Vet since 2014. Lisa has extensive experience in veterinary practice management and is co-chair/instructor for the Animal Business Management Program at New England Institute of Technology. She previously worked as a specialty exotics technician at a 24 hour emergency hospital. Her knowledge of exotics helps us give the best care to our feathered and scaled patients. She enjoys spending time with her family and her animals, which include horses, chickens, parrots, turtles, dogs and cats.
Stephanie has been part of the Big River Team since 2008. She recently passed her VTNE Boards exam, and is now a Certified Veterinary Technician. Stephanie has excellent technical skills, often assisting in orthopedic surgery. She is wonderful with both patients and clients. Stephanie enjoys going to the gym and spending time with her family, her Great Dane, Odin, and her cat, Barrett.
Stephen is one of our newest team members. He is currently enrolled in the Vet Tech program at New England Tech. He has a special interest in exotics, especially reptiles. His interests include hiking, drawing, and dinosaurs. Stephen enjoys spending time with his dog, Nala, and his water dragon, Reptar.
Julia is also a new team member. She is a graduate of the Vet Tech program at the New England Institute of Technology. She has a special interest in dentistry and is currently in training to be a surgical technician. Julia enjoys spending time with her cat, Mittens, and her two gorgeous Tennessee Walking Horses, Buddy and Moon.
